Preserving Fertility

Sperm Freezing at Wish Fertility

At Wish Fertility, we understand that life's journey can be unpredictable, and circumstances may arise that could impact fertility. For men who wish to preserve their reproductive potential, sperm freezing, also known as sperm cryopreservation, is an invaluable option. Our fertility centre is proud to offer this cutting-edge technique, providing men with the opportunity to store their healthy sperm for future use, whether it be for fertility treatments, medical reasons, or personal family planning.

What is Sperm Freezing?

Sperm freezing is a simple yet effective process that involves collecting and preserving a man's sperm at a young and fertile age for potential use in the future. The procedure allows the sperm to be stored at very low temperatures, typically in liquid nitrogen, which halts all biological processes and keeps the sperm viable for an extended period. When the man is ready to conceive, the frozen sperm can be thawed and used for assisted reproductive techniques, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Why Consider Sperm Freezing?

There are several reasons why men may consider sperm freezing

1. Future Fertility
Men who are planning to undergo medical treatments or surgeries that could impact their fertility, such as cancer treatments, may choose sperm freezing as a proactive measure to preserve their ability to father a child in the future.
2. Occupational Risks
Some occupations and hobbies may expose men to potential hazards that could affect sperm quality. Sperm freezing offers a safeguard, ensuring the availability of healthy sperm should the need arise.
3. Family Planning
Sperm freezing provides men with the flexibility to delay family-building until they are ready, ensuring that their reproductive options remain open regardless of age or life circumstances.

The Sperm Freezing Process

1. Sperm Collection
The sperm freezing process begins with the collection of a semen sample from the man. The sample is typically collected through masturbation into a sterile container provided by the fertility centre.
2. Sperm Evaluation
The semen sample is then analyzed in the laboratory to assess sperm count, motility, and morphology. This evaluation helps determine the quality and suitability of the sperm for freezing.
3. Sperm Cryopreservation
If the sperm sample meets the required quality standards, it is prepared for cryopreservation. The sperm is mixed with a special cryoprotectant solution to protect it during the freezing and thawing process.
4. Freezing
The sperm is divided into small vials, which are then carefully frozen using a controlled-rate freezing process. These vials are stored in liquid nitrogen tanks at extremely low temperatures until they are needed.
5. Thawing and Fertility Treatment
When the man is ready to use the frozen sperm for fertility treatment, the vials are thawed, and the sperm is prepared for use in assisted reproductive techniques like IVF or IUI.
